About
Butthole Surfers, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls, Voodo Glow Skulls, Pussy Galore, Pygmy Love Circus . . . these are just a few examples of ridiculous band names that lurk around the seemingly endless corners of the rock music world. If a canonical list of stupid names for rock bands exists (which it probably does somewhere on the Internet), then another band name should be added to the list: Superbutt. What kind of name is Superbutt for a rock band? Are these guys gay and they dig each other’s asses? No. Do they have female band members with gorgeous asses? No. So what exactly is the significance behind the name Superbutt? I asked front man Andras Voros this very question. He chuckled a bit and gave me a thirty second explanation about the origin of the name . . . and trust me . . . it is not worth repeating. Basically, there is no significance. It is just another ridiculous band name that the rock citizens of planet earth must endure. The name Superbutt is ridiculous, but the band itself is far from ridiculous. Superbutt is a talented band that should be heard and appreciated beyond the borders of Hungary. Playing a blend of rocknroll and metal, Superbutt has made their mark on Central Europe and parts of Western Europe. These guys are about music. They certainly aren’t about money. Being a Hungarian rock star doesn’t translate into big money. Front man Andras Voros drives a Ford Focus . . . not a Hummer. Some of the band members don’t even own a car. Superbutt tours in a rusty old van . . . not a luxurious bus. Most of the guys have real jobs . . . or they would starve. Being a Hungarian rock star might get you laid from time-to-time and will get you free admittance into local clubs . . . but the monetary rewards are few. So why do these guys play? Because they love their music and they have fun while performing. When Superbutt performs, each band member actually has a genuine smile on his face. They don’t make political statements with their music. They don’t want to save the world. They aren’t full of rage and angst. They are "happy" nice guys . . . which is a welcome change from many rock bands today. It makes no difference whether Superbutt performs in a seedy club, an upscale venue, or an outdoor music festival . . . their show is always full of life. Their lyrics are clever and fun; their music is tight and heavy; their Cds are excellent; and their live shows are a blast. In short: Superbutt is a fine piece of ass. As far as I’m concerned, the guys from Superbutt truly are Hungarian rock stars that deserve to be international rock stars.
